As defined by the WHO, health is the foundation of well-being, encompassing physical, mental, and social aspects, representing a complete state of well-being rather than merely the absence of disease.
In the 22plus Quality of Life (QoL) Framework, health and well-being are interconnected constructs, where well-being inherently includes aspects of "ill-being," just as health includes the concept of disease. Drawing on frameworks such as the CDC’s Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQOL), which employs the “Healthy Days” approach, this model integrates key health indicators and social determinants to reflect the needs of the adult IDD population.
22plus adapted this framework through an integration of global research and best practices from leading organizations, tailoring it to the unique needs of adults with IDD.
As a practical and accessible tool, it facilitates a thorough assessment of quality-of-life perceptions and provides structured, actionable plans to address and improve specific areas, driving real and measurable change.
This tool serves to enable service providers, caregivers, and policymakers to evaluate and strengthen support systems, working to ensure that every individual has the resources and opportunities necessary to thrive.
